Background of Our Project

Solar set window project is focused on creating a healthy environment within the household that more closely synchronizes with natural circadian rhythms. This motivation derives from creating a healthier environment, along with making the lighting system more efficient with the implementation of an LED system. The group will learn how to program a small computer, a Raspberry Pi, that, with a program, will track the movement and coloring of the sun and align the light emitted from the LEDs with these qualities (for example, a dim red in the morning). Also, the members working on this project will get to know one another better as group members and learn strengths and weaknesses of each other. This would play into filling the weakness of some members with the strengths of others to have a successful project outcome. Major tasks would be getting the materials together to create a functional model that works with the above criteria, these being the lights being able to turn or remain on after the sun is setting, or while natural light is too dim for daily activities a motion sensor would detect if a person is in the room and turn on the lights when needed. The challenges that we would face would be programming the system to function how we desire it to while making sure that the program is small enough to be run on the Raspberry Pi computer. Another challenge is integrating all the systems together so that they run smoothly and work every time the algorithm run through the system.

The major pieces of the project include:
Functional Model
Basic Physical Model
Computer generated
Model
Light and Motion Sensor Simulation and Results
LED, Light and Motion Sensor Algorithm
Design Survey

  1. Excellent! The home page would be stronger with the inclusion of an image that represents the project.
